This review is about the movie The Wild Robot, a movie adaptation of the book The Wild Robot. After a shipwreck strands Roz, an intelligent robot, on a remote island, she learns to survive by observing the animals and gradually earning their trust. When she becomes the guardian of an orphaned gosling, Roz discovers what it means to belong in a heartfelt story about empathy, family, and the harmony between technology and nature.

Main characters

Roz is a gentle, curious, and highly adaptable robot who learns to balance logic with emotion as she navigates life in the wild. Though built as a machine, she grows into a compassionate protector and mother figure, showing deep empathy and selflessness. Fink is a clever, mischievous red fox who starts out as a self-serving loner driven by survival instincts and sly behavior. Over the course of The Wild Robot., he becomes one of Roz’s first true friends and allies, teaching her about island life and ultimately growing into a loyal, protective companion who helps raise Brightbill and supports their makeshift family. Brightbill is curious, sensitive, and determined, often questioning where he belongs while showing a strong desire to prove himself. Though initially awkward and unsure, he grows into a brave and loyal goose, shaped by resilience, empathy, and the unconventional love he receives from Roz.

Becoming a Mom

Roz confides in Pinktail about the unexpected bond she has formed with Brightbill and her fear that she isn’t capable of being his mother. Pinktail comforts her, explaining that parenting isn’t something anyone is born knowing how to do. When Roz admits, I do not have the programming to be a mother, Pinktail replies,No one does. We just make it up, reassuring her that love and effort matter more than perfect instruction. This moment helps Roz accept her role as Brightbill’s guardian, even though it requires learning and adapting beyond her original design.
